My church has embarked upon a 2 year discipleship training which I decided to enrol in. The response was overwhelming and was over subscribed. However, I was accepted into the first batch and we had our orientation last Sunday.

What is it? Basically, it’s a 2 year programme divided into 4 semesters. The group meets every Friday night at church and we follow a set curriculum which includes Bible Reading, Journaling, Prayer Life, Practical Discipling, Bible Exposition and Teaching and Memory Verses amongst others.

Daily homework entails Bible Reading, Prayers and Daily Journaling which must be shared each Friday. Weekly homework includes memory verses and weekly assignments which also must be submitted on Fridays.

It’s full on! Absent for 3 sessions in a semester and you’re out! If you have good reasons, you can appeal but they’re pretty strict about this. 3 late attendences is considered one absent day. Even if you are absent, you have to make up the session with your Discipleship Group Leader (DGL) and still submit all your Daily and Weekly Homework. In short, it really is full on!

Memory verses start with two simple verses per week and it gets progressively more and longer. This week is rather simple. The two memory verses are:

Romans 3:23 (NASB)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23 (NASB)
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So, there we have it. Pray for me on my journey.

And… my Friday nights should now be more honest!
