On Saturday, SC and I had brunch at a cafe called “House of Bread” in Simpang Bedok. Tried to Google their website but none existed.

It’s a small, homely little cafe on the same stretch as Foo House in Simpang Bedok. It’s quite a quiet little neighbourhood so it makes for a nice chill out Saturday morning brunch cum reading the papers.

We had a mushroom soup, a sandwich each (tuna on foccacia and egg parsley on multigrain) and a cup of coffee. The soup was excellent with big chunks of mushrooms and the sandwich was generous with two bun sandwiches per person. The coffee was strong (not the starstruck watered down type) and flavoursome. And… all in, S$12! A bargain for an off the beaten track, decent food, friendly service and fair portions kind of place.

Definitely to be repeated.

It is, incidentally, a Christian cafe which I didn’t realise when I went there for the first time. You’ll find a couple of Christian posters on the wall, free copies of “Daily Bread”, instrumental hymns in the background and if you guys didn’t know this, Bethlehem in Hebrew means “House of Bread”.

There you go.

Upon request, you can place an order for Ezekiel bread (Ezekiel 4:9) which is a bread they make based on a recipe lifted from the Book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament.
