An author, Patrick Wensink commissioned a cover for his novel, Broken Piano For President that was evidently modeled after the Jack Daniel’s label. Not surprisingly, this did not sit well with Jack Daniels. See the picture of the cover and the label below:

However, instead of muscling in with a heavy-duty threatening legal letter, they adopted a very gentlemanly demeanor. Here is a copy of the said letter from the author’s website.

They even volunteered to pay for the redesign of the cover, within reason.

Hats off to you Jack Daniels. If it wasn’t breakfast, a JD Coke will be in order.

Wensink’s own blog post in this subject here.

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew,

My condolences. I’m not aware of the details of your day-to-day personal life but one thing was apparent to me, and most likely the rest of the world – the mutual love, respect and devotion you and your wife had for each other.

With the deep affection you had for each other, her passing must be tough.

As you move on with what you must do, I pray to my God for strength, comfort and the peace to accept what is inevitable for all of us. I pray for comfort from your loved ones and friends and your continued vigour and focus on your work.

The relationship your wife and yourself showed us is inspiring and endearing.

Thank you for modelling that for us.
